Some may see golf as an elite sport. Others may refer to it as a “gentleman’s sport”, strictly reserved for professional athletes and membership clubs.
What if I told you that this assumption was wrong? You don’t have to be a distinguished member of a country club to play golf. You can even improve your skills in golf without stepping out of your home.
In this article, I am going to outline five backyard golf games that you can play right now. And yes, they are entertaining and make for a great activity at barbecues and birthday parties in the yard.
Top 5 Backyard Golf Games:
1. Chippo Golf (Cornhole Golf)
Chippo golf is the hybrid baby of the old favorites cornhole and chipping. You can play this game on any surface, and the adaptability of Chippo golf makes it the perfect backyard golf game.
This game has a mobile hitting tarp. It also has a board with three different target nets, and you can shift the target to any position of your choice.
The average Chippo set comes with:
- Two netted target turf boards
- Two rubber bottom chipping mats
- Six high-density foam balls (designed to travel just like regular golf balls)
The manufacturer makes the three scoring holes in a Chippo set with reinforced plastic. The scoring holes also consist of artificial turf and nylon netting. Steel legs that can bend are attached to each board. Under each board, there is a storage space where you can perfectly pack in the chipping mats.

- Chipping mats fit perfectly into compartment on underside of each board for...
How to set it up:
- Place the boards such that the front edges face each other. There should be a distance of approximately 15 feet between them.
- Place the chipping mats in front of each board.
For this game, you need three players to net a golf ball. You should chip the golf ball into one of three holes in the 40″ x 24″ x 1.4″ target board. Chip 15 feet away from the target.
You get 1 point if your golf ball hits the board. Chipping into the center hole gets you 3 points. You get 5 points for either of the top holes. Bouncing your ball on the mat before it hits the target board doubles your score.
Chippo golf is fun and energetic. You can play in your backyard, garden, office, beach, etc. If you are looking for an enjoyable means of improving your short game, Chippo is for you. And remember; it’s all in your hip and throws.

The GoSports BattlePutt Golf Putting Game is a bit challenging. It isn’t a straight path to the holes; instead, there are slopes and sudden moves, and you deserve those shouts of joy on putting a golf ball.

5. Golf Putting Mat
Golf putting mats are a new favorite. Golf enthusiasts and amateur golfers usually buy the mat for practice. They are a fun and innovative way to enjoy golf in the comfort of one’s home.
Consider these factors when buying a golf putting mat:
You want a mat with a length that can fit into your play area.
Be sure to select a mat that rolls out smoothly. You don’t want to have doubts about why your golf ball is moving funny.
You want to buy a thick mat that lasts longer and retains its shape.
You want a mat that isn’t a burden to lug around and is easy to store.
- Special Features:
Don’t spend your money on a mat that doesn’t offer you anything in return. Invest in one that has extra features such as targets, speed settings, ramps, visual and alignment aids, etc.
