1. Sunix Folding Garden Kneeler and Seat
For maximum useability, the Sunix Folding Garden Kneeler and Seat certainly takes the cake.
This functional garden kneeler has a lot of the same features we love about the TomCare (see below), but with even better tool bags for keeping all your items within reach. Each of the high-capacity tool bags is made of 600D polyester fabric. These durable bags won’t wear down or tear. They each feature large pockets and a wider build so they won’t swing through the leg and tip as others do.
Plus, when it’s time to flip your seat, the smart slide-on design means you can reposition your bags in seconds without spilling your tools in the process. Folding the product flat for storage is just as quick and easy thanks to the spring-action handles.
The Sunix kneeler also features one of the wider kneeling pads out there. At 8 inches wide and 16.1 inches across, this comfortable pad is perfect for gardeners who are sick of balancing on those narrower seats and pads. The kneeler pad is thicker than the seat pad, at 1 inch for the former and .75 inches for the latter. Both are made of comfortable EVA foam.
With a 330lb capacity and 18-month warranty, you can be confident that the Sunix Kneeler and Garden Seat is made to last.
2. Abco Garden Kneeler and Stool
Looking for something lightweight and easy to haul around the garden? The Abco Garden Kneeler and Stool is a great choice.
At just 6.7 pounds, this lightweight model is perfect for older gardeners. It folds into a compact product that can be easily stored or packed around for use in and outside the home.
In addition to being lighter than most others, it is also smaller in general. The seat is just 6 inches across and about 16 inches long. The pads are each about 2/3 inch thick but are softer than the others we tried. While this does mean this kneeler isn’t quite as comfortable as others, this trade-off may be worth it to save you storage space and hauling energy.
The other tradeoff you make with this bench is the lack of tool storage. It comes with just one tool bag, which is undersized and will tip if overloaded. But for small items, it will work fine and lends itself well to the overall sleek design of this product.
The Abco Garden Kneeler is rated for up to 300 pounds and comes with a free pair of gardening gloves.
3. TomCare Garden Kneeler Seat
The TomCare Garden Kneeler Seat is made of sturdy steel that won’t warp, rust, or break. But, at just under 7 pounds, it is also impressively lightweight.
It has the thickest pad of all the products we looked at. Both the kneeler and the seat pad are made of 1-inch thick EVA foam. While other options are too hard to be comfortable, this one manages to be both soft and supportive.
Like our other options on this list, the seat can be used as a kneeler or inverted and used as a garden bench. The legs lock in place with the help of two wide spring-action handles. The tool bags, which slide into place on each rail, are easy to move around and offer plenty of storage space in either position.
For maximum comfort and dependability, the TomCare Garden Kneeler is a great choice. The seat pads are well sized at 6.1″ wide and 15.5″ long. The seat sits at about 16″ off the ground and has a 330-pound weight capacity.
4. Uhinoos Garden Kneeler and Seat
If you’re like us and want your garden tools to come with a little visual pizzazz, the Uhinoos Garden Kneeler and Seat is a great option.
The frame and seat themselves are fairly simple in design and look. Like others on this list, the frame is made of durable steel tubing. The black finish matches well with the sleek black EVA foam seat. That seat is similar in size to the Abco seat, with both pads measuring around 2/3 inches thick.
Where the Uhinoos adds a little bit of extra visual flair is with the included tool bags. Choose between green bags with white stripes and red bags with a white floral pattern. Both options feature large pockets and wide designs that won’t tip or droop no matter how much you load them up.
The capacity of this garden bench is 300 pounds. However, the piece of plastic that holds the seats together does seem to be prone to breakage with heavy use, so we’d recommend this bench only to gardeners on the lighter side and those looking for something for gentler use.
5. Xcsource Garden Kneeler and Seat
For a great product at a bargain price, we recommend the Xcsource Garden Kneeler and Seat.
Like many of our higher-priced picks, this functional seat kneeler is made of durable but lightweight steel tubing. It folds flat in seconds and stands sturdy thanks to the spring-locking handles.
Similar to the Sunix, the EVA foam pads on this model are two different sizes. The kneeler is just over 1 inch thick while the seat is closer to .75 inches. Both are well sized at about 8″ wide by 16″ long.
The Xcsource kneeler is a bit on the heavier end at 7.72 pounds, but this extra weight is not overly noticeable when using it around the yard. The tool bags have recently been upgraded to feature wider pockets that won’t swing and slide-on functionality that makes transitioning from seat to kneeler that much easier.
Considering the price point for this product, the competitive 300-pound capacity, and user-friendly features, the Xcsource Garden Seat makes for a smart, budget-friendly purchase.
Buying Guide
Many garden kneelers with seats have adopted a similar look and design, but that doesn’t mean they all perform the same or come with the same features.
Here are some things to consider to help you find the right garden kneeler seat to meet your needs:
- Tool storage options
- Materials
- Weight capacity
- Foldability
1. Tool Storage Options
One option that does tend to differ widely between kneeler seat products is the tool storage options.
Most products come with one or two removable tool storage pouches that fit over the rails on the sides. These vary greatly in their size, pocket configuration, materials they’re made with, and how they attach.
The best tool pockets are the ones that slide into place over the rails and hang against the verticle rails. Not only are these easier to take on and off (an important feature if you plan to flip your kneeler seat often), but they are less prone to tipping.
2. Materials
Most quality kneeler benches are made of two durable, functional materials: steel tubing and EVA foam.
A body made of steel tubing provides plenty of durability and weather resistance without adding a ton of weight. These bodies can typically hold upwards of 300 pounds and won’t rust or bend.
Some metal benches do use plastic to join the two kneeler pads together. While this doesn’t always pose a problem, thin, low-quality plastic in this position can easily lead to cracking and breaking that will make the product unusable.
EVA, which stands for ethylene-vinyl acetate, is a type of foam that is commonly used in outdoor equipment. This synthetic foam has high UV and water resistance and high impact absorption. All of these qualities make it perfect for kneeling on while working outside in the elements.
3. Weight Capacity
As we mentioned above, most steel tube garden seats can hold up to 300 pounds with ease. But, as you can see from our list of the best garden kneelers with seats, capacity limits can vary.
Often, it is the quality of the welds and the use of plastic between the seats that reduce a product’s overall weight capacity.
If you are on the larger side or if you tend to be rougher on your garden equipment, it is worth seeking out a bench with a high capacity rating.
But if you are more petite, opting for a bench with a lower rating may make your life a little easier. Not only do these low-capacity benches tend to cost a little less, but they also tend to be lighter and easier to carry around.
4. Foldability
All the benches we highlighted above are foldable. In fact, they each use the same simple, spring-action handle design to lock and unlock the legs.
This simple feature makes it easy to collapse the legs when needed but also assures they remain secure when the seat is in use.
