A regulation-size cornhole court and board explained, including diagrams with correct dimensions, measurements, and distance between boards.
A game of cornhole in the backyard may look relatively easy to set up, but creating an official cornhole court has to adhere to specific regulations.
A cornhole court consists of several elements, with regulation size and dimensions for the court as well as for the two boards.
In this article, I am going to outline what an official cornhole court looks like, including diagrams with the correct court and board dimensions, and the distance between the two boards.

Elements of a Cornhole Court
Here are the different elements that make up a regulation-size cornhole court:
- Cornhole board (x2):
A cornhole court consists of 2 cornhole boards, one on each end of the court. - Pitchers box (x4):
The pitchers box is the area from where players throw their cornhole bags. A cornhole court has 4 pitchers boxes; two on each end of the court, on both sides of the boards. - Foul line (x2):
The foul line is the line the player cannot cross when throwing their cornhole bag. This line is the front edge of the board and the two pitchers boxes.

Let’s go through the exact regulation dimensions in a bit more detail.
Cornhole Court Dimensions
The size of a cornhole court is 40 feet long and 8 feet wide, or 480 inches long and 96 inches wide.
These are the measurements of a cornhole court and its elements:
- Cornhole court: 40 x 8 feet (480 x 96 inches).
- Cornhole board: 4 x 2 feet (48 x 24 inches).
- Cornhole pitchers box: 4 x 3 feet (48 x 36 inches).
- Distance between cornhole boards (foul line to foul line): 27 feet (324 inches).
- Length of foul line: 8 feet (96 inches).
Note that the length of a cornhole court is set at 40 feet, which is actually longer than the length of the different elements added together (4 + 27 + 4 = 35 feet).
I am assuming this is to allow for space behind the two boards. So technically, the length of a cornhole court is 35 feet. Some sources even suggest a length of 45 feet, but regardless, the length of the two boards plus the distance between the two boards appears to be set in stone, which is 35 feet.
Also note that for junior players (under 12 years old), the distance between the two foul lines is typically reduced to 12 to 15 feet.

Now, let’s have a closer look at the dimensions and size of the two cornhole boards.

Let’s go through these dimensions in a bit more detail.
Cornhole Board Dimensions
The size of a cornhole board is 4 feet long and 2 feet wide, or 48 inches long and 24 inches wide.
These are the measurements of a cornhole board:
- Cornhole board: 4 x 2 feet (48 x 24 inches).
- Cornhole board hole diameter: 6 inches.
- Cornhole board hole from back of board: 9 inches (to center of hole).
- Back of cornhole board from ground: 12 inches.
- Front of cornhole board from ground: 4 inches.
The hole in the board is 6 inches in diameter and is centered 9 inches from the top of the board. In other words, the center of the hole is 9 inches from the top/back of the board and 39 inches from the bottom.
If you’re keen to build a set of cornhole boards yourself, these exact measurements may come in handy for you.
